Grow Guide - Orchids

How To Start: The best way to grow an orchid is to buy an already potted plant. Sowing from seed can take up to 8 years!

Temperature: 15-26°C

Light: Orchids require at least 12-13 hours of light per day for winter and 14-16 hours in spring, summer and autumn.

14 to 16 hours per day in the summer is recommended for growing indoors, decreasing to 10-12 in the winter. Use our Pianta grow light when growing indoors.

Watering & Care: The only care orchids need is water. In general, water once a week during the winter and twice a week when the weather turns warm and dry.

Water from the top and let it drain, then place back on your windowsill.

Fertiliser: 20-20-20 once every other week.

Pests: Aphids - remove with soap and water solution.

Height:  6 inches up to about 3 feet high

Time Of Growth: Once you see the buds, an orchid can take between a month to 1 year for a new flower spike to grow. Their growth is relatively slow but varieties take between 1 to 3months to open flowers.
