Grow Guide - Strawberry
How To Start: Strawberries are easy to start from seed, but keep in mind that you may not get many for the first few years until they’ve been established. This is why many gardeners opt for potted strawberry plants.
Grow strawberries in a well-prepared strawberry bed, pot, growing bag or strawberry planter, in a sheltered spot that gets plenty of sunlight, for sweet, juicy fruits. Add plenty of well-rotted horse manure or garden compost to the soil before planting.
Temperature: Strawberries need a cold spell to initiate flowers and fruit – ideally a fortnight below 7°C.
Light: 6-12 hours per day. Or, 12 to 16 hours per day are recommended for growing indoors using our Pianta grow light.
Watering & Care: Water well, especially in hot summers. Avoid wetting the centre of the plant or wetting any ripening fruits, to prevent grey mould.
Fertiliser: Feed regularly with a high potash feed from early spring onwards.
