Grow Guide - Aubergine/ Eggplant
How To Start: Sow Aubergines between January-April for a long cropping season. Sow in moist, well-draining multi-purpose compost and pot on when the first set of true leaves appear.
Temperature: Consistently above 20℃
Light: At least 6 hours of direct sunlight.
For indoor growing, we recommend germinating with our Pianta grow light for 12 hours per day for the first 5 to 6 weeks. Raise to 14 to 16 hours per day for two to three weeks.
Watering & Care: Keep potting on if growing in pots or plant out into the greenhouse when night temperatures exceed 10ºC. Ensure the soil or compost is free-draining.
To encourage plants to fruit, you can either gently tap or shake the flowers with water to help release the pollen, or grow pollinator plants nearby to entice pollinators
Fertiliser: Feed weekly with a high potash fertiliser once plants have started flowering.
Pests: Aphids, whitefly, blossom end rot.
Height: Up to 4ft
